Born in 1925, Chrysler was founded by noted machinist Walter P. Chrysler. The automaker quickly earned a reputation for advanced engineering. In 1928, Chrysler Corp. expanded with the purchase of Dodge and the creation of the DeSoto and Plymouth divisions. Of those, only Dodge remains. Chrysler sells a wide array of cars, trucks, minivans and SUVs. Following a bankruptcy in 2009, the U.A.W. became the majority owner of the company, with Fiat and the U.S. government as junior partners. Today, Fiat, with its 20 percent stake, controls the management of the company.
