ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 13, 2010 – Mark Daniels, President of Greenville Chrysler, a Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealership in Greenville, Texas, was named the TIME Magazine Dealer of the Year from Texas.
Daniels was chosen to represent the Texas Automobile Dealers Association in the national competition. The award is sponsored by TIME Magazine in association with Goodyear, and in cooperation with NADA.
“All I ever dreamed of as a child was being a car dealer,” says Daniels, who began his automotive career at age 14 working for the local Exxon station.
In 1977, Daniels graduated from Hillcrest High in Dallas, but from 1975-’77 he also worked at Dallas’s Parkway Pontiac as both a porter and assistant body shop manager, becoming the youngest manager, at age 17, in the company’s history. “Once I completed high school,” Daniels says, “I attended General Motors Institute to complete their job entry program.” A Dean’s List student in college, Daniels earned a degree in business administration from Texas Tech University, graduating in 1981.
From 1977-’87, Daniels pursued his childhood dream at Henry Butts Oldsmobile in Dallas, getting experience as a porter, assistant technician, technician, parts counter person and in accounting. “I worked after school, Saturdays, holidays and summer vacations in every position,” he explains, “Upon college graduation, I became a full-time employee where I excelled as a salesman, inventory manager, and finance manager.”
