ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 13, 2010 – John Deniger, President of Prostrollo Motor Sales, a Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and Pontiac dealership in Huron, S.D., was named the TIME Magazine Dealer of the Year from South Dakota.
Deniger was chosen to represent the South Dakota Automobile Dealers Association in the national competition. The award is sponsored by TIME Magazine in association with Goodyear, and in cooperation with NADA.
“We have always hired high school students to help in our office and detail center during the summer and after school during the school year,” says Deniger, who understands first-hand how giving back can change one’s life.
Deniger was born in Russellville, AR, and grew up in Madison, SD, where he graduated from Madison High in 1965. Deniger served in the Navy Air Reserve from 1966 to 1974 and then earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at South Dakota State University in 1974. He spent the next 10 years working as a civil engineer. Deniger moved to Huron, SD, in 1975 to work for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. In 1977, Deniger transferred to Boulder City, NV, with the Bureau of Reclamation, and then moved to Juneau, AK, in 1979 with the Department of Energy, where he worked on the design and construction of hydroelectric plants and power marketing. In 1984, Deniger and his family moved back to Huron so he could join his father-in-law, Jerry Prostrollo, and brother-in-law, Pat, in the dealership, Prostrollo Chevrolet Buick, which they had just purchased. Eight years later, Deniger bought the dealership.
Deniger’s commitment to community, charity and public service has led him to become actively involved in numerous clubs and organizations.
