ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 13, 2010 – Eddie Corley Jr., General Manager of Corley’s Albuquerque Lincoln Mercury Volvo, a Lincoln, Mercury and Volvo dealership in Albuquerque, N.M., was named the TIME Magazine Dealer of the Year from New Mexico.
Corley was chosen to represent the New Mexico Automotive Dealers Association in the national competition. The award is sponsored by TIME Magazine in association with Goodyear, and in cooperation with NADA.
“Over the years, being a successful dealer has allowed me the capability to contribute time and resources to different entities and causes,” says Corley. And contribute he has.
After graduating from Grants (NM) High School, Corley earned a BA degree from South Dakota’s Huron University, class of 1984. After college, the scholarship athlete in football and track spent two years at Norwest Financial in Las Cruces, NM, before his father, Ed Corley Sr., gave him his first opportunity in the automotive business. In June 1986, Eddie Jr. became a manager trainee at his father’s dealership, Grants Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Inc., and he gained invaluable experience and knowledge there by working his way through various positions and responsibilities, including used car manager, service manager, parts and service director, collections, finance, and eventually sales manager.
“In 1988, the dealership lost its General Manager,” Corley explains, “and I was asked to step into the position until a new manager could be hired. I made sure that the search would never take place.” It didn’t. Eddie Corley Jr. remained GM at his father’s store until 1995 when he and Ed Sr. entered into a partnership to take over the dealership that is now Corley’s Albuquerque Lincoln Mercury Volvo, where Eddie Jr. has been Owner and General Manager ever since.
